Kaizer Chiefs 0-1 Supersport United FC
Coachless Matsatsantsa punish the Glamour boys 1-0 in a rainy stadium. With amaKhosi first match at home since fans were allowed to come watch soccer at the stadium and support their team but not much fans were present in soweto.
It was the first time ever the fixture of Supersport to not consist of Kaitano Tembo, who parted ways with Matsatsantsa this week. In charge was Assistant coach Andre Arendse, the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.
Kaizer Chiefs had the better chances overall on the night but were soon punished for the lack of scoring goals in front of goal.
AmaKhosi had their first chance in the first 5minutes of the game and should have scored a goal as Siyabonga Ngezana came running in to get on the end of a corner but miss with his header wide.
The Glamour boys showed some promising build up plays in the first minutes of the match but however were no threat at all infront of goal.
Before the half hour mark Supersport began to improve more on the game. Kharma Billiat went on a runi. The 40th minute between two defenders only to be denied by the chest of Ronwen Williams went he came rushing out.
In the 44th minute the Glamour boys thought they took the lead when Samir Nurkovic tucked away Billiat’s cross and the goal was ruled off side which was the right call by the ref.
Matsatsantsa the attempted for goal moments later with Gabuza from close range shooting over the goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and over the cross bar.
AmaKhosi contininued to look dangerous after the restart of the second half and created more chances and misses. A wide shot curled by Billiat and Cole Alexander failed to score a close range header in the 58th minute.
Another opportunity for amaKhosi came two minutes later as Bernard Parker lacked a clinical finish six meters out from goal, allowing William to make another save.
Soon after, a clattering challenge from Bernard Parker on Thamsanqa Gabuza earned him a yellow card and a suspension after getting four bookings.
Having failed to score a goal with many given opportunities for goal the Glamour Boys were punished for the misses and poor choices in the 67th minute when against the run of play, Ghampani Lungu Burst clear down the left before delivering a super ball for Gabuza who slammed home from the edge of the small box.
Lungu was then almost on the end of a Gabuza cross give minutes later, only from a well timed challenge from Ngezana to stop the Zambian from making it 2-0. AmaKhosi tried for an equalizer in the closing 15 minutes, but Williams never found his goal under serious threat.
The match was disappointing for amaKhosi, to be beaten 1-0 by a Coachless team not on the top 5 on the table. And was a great victory for Supersport.
