Johannesburg – The third and final Test of the Freedom Series between South Africa and the visitors India got underway at the Bullring on Wednesday morning.

India won the toss and chose to bat first despite the pitch and weather conditions favouring a team to bowl first. This decision would later prove to the detriment of the batting side as India were bowled all out for 187 with still 11 overs to spare in the day.

The day was also marked by Vernon Philander’s milestone of playing 50 Matches for the Proteas. Philander made his debut in 2011 and since then he’s maintained a high standard of consistent performances.

The medium pace bowler started the day on 183* test wickets next to his name and finished on 185* on Day one.

The Proteas batting line up will look to capitalise on the efforts of the bowling attack by posting a huge total in the first innings.

South Africa ended the days play on 6/1
