The Proteas managed to pull a rabbit out of a hat on Day Four of the First Test in the Freedom Cup Test Series between South Africa and India at Newlands on Monday.
Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat, South Africa could only manage a 286 all out in their first innings, India responded with 209 all out, leaving the Proteas with a lead of 77 runs.
Indian pace attack bowled South Africa out for 130 runs in the second innings setting a target of 208 runs for India to win. India seemed to have control in the second innings at 30/0, it was Morne Morkel who broke the opening partnership and it went downhill from there for the Indian outfit as they were rolled over for 135 all out, giving South Africa a 72 run win.

Vernon Philander was the star of the day as he took six wickets for 42 runs, his career best.
