Rafael Nadal has emerged victorious in a five-set slugfest over rising German star Alexander Zverev in the third round of Australian Open 2017 on Saturday, the 14-time Grand Slam winner taking a 4-6 6-3 6-7(5) 6-3 6-2 victory at Rod Laver Arena.
The 2009 Melbourne Park champion had to dig deep to oust the plucky Zverev in a tick over four hours, and will meet either sixth seed Gael Monfils or 32nd seed Philipp Kohlschreiber in the round of 16 on Monday.
