Joost van der Westhuizen, who has battled motor neurone disease since May 2011, is now dependent on oxygen for survival.
The former Bok hero has been reliant on oxygen for some time, but they opted to keep the news quiet for the sake of his children, Jordan (12) and Kylie (10), whom he had with singer and presenter Amor Vittone.

Toks van der Linde, a former Springbok and presenter of Toks en Tjops, shared a heartfelt message for his friend on Facebook on Friday.
“In your prayers please think of the legend tonight,” Toks wrote.
On Thursday night singer Arno Jordaan tweeted: “Think of the fighter and his family tonight.
“Things are very bad for Joost. You’ve battled for as long time, fighter; just hang in there.”
