DURBAN North triathlete, Henri Schoeman, won bronze in the Olympic triathlon event in Rio just minutes ago. The former Oakridge College pupil is now the eighth South African medalist at the games.
The 24-year-old is a three-time International Triathlon Union (ITU) African Champion, a two-time 5150 African Champion, an ITU SA champ, an ITU World Cup winner in Tongyeong and a silver medalist at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, and can now add Olympic bronze medalist to his impressive CV.
Schoeman finished third behind Great Britain brothers Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee who bagged gold and silver respectively. The other South African medal hopeful, Richard Murray finished in fourth while Portugal’s Joao Pereira finished fifth.
