Leicester City and its staggering title chase
Leicester City is just seven games away from doing the seemingly impossible; lifting the Barclays Premier League trophy, after a record breaking season and grinding 1-0 win over Crystal Palace this past weekend. The Foxes now believe that they can do what Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham and both Manchester clubs have been striving towards the entire season, which is lifting the acclaimed trophy, in a season that has been nothing short of remarkable in the eyes of any football lover. Leicester City is 17 points away from securing the title and can now be nearly 100% sure that there is a spot for them in the Champions League next season. What was once a dream in the eyes of Leicester lovers is now very much a reality. Due to their successful season, it also seems that many neutral supporters have begun to backing this once relegated club.
Twelve months ago Leicester City was bottom of the Premier League log, barely surviving at that, but now they’re currently on road to claim the Barclays Premier League trophy for the first time in their club’s history. With Jamie Vardy and Riyaad Mahrez being names on everybody’s lips at the moment, very few can predict what will happen next with this deadly duo dominating the Premier League in their current form. Mahrez neatly finished off a great ball from Jamie Vardy on Saturday (19 March 2016) to secure a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, putting Leicester 5 points ahead of second placed Tottenham Hotspur and an inch closer to lifting the title. Up against a strong Crystal Palace side, Leicester City did what they do best on the counter and held yet another clean sheet against a bombardment of attempts from the likes of Adebayor, Bolasie, Cabaye and the rest of the Palace side.
Claudio Ranieri, currently making a city dream while at the top of the table, believes the title hasn’t been decided yet. He believes that finishing in the top four will be a major achievement in itself for a once championship-bound team. From relegation-threatened to title challengers, Ranieri has pulled a team from the scraps and has helped it believe that it can go all the way. With consistency and motivation forming the base of this Leicester City side, teams find it difficult to bully past a side as resilient as Leicester this season.
This is a team that has nothing to lose but has everything to play for. Every football fanatic will have just one question to ask: “Will Leicester City win the league this season?”. Well… with the history books just waiting to be rewritten, can Leicester pull off the fairy tale story of the century and claim the 2015/2016 Barclays Premier League title?
