The incident occurred after the last ODI of South Africa’s recent tour of India which SA won comprehensively. Allegedly, Amla apologized to the sponsors of the event but firmly stated that he was apprehensive to do the interview since the host was wearing a short dress and a low-neck top. The sponsors communicated the same to the host, who complied with the dress code set by Amla.
Earlier, Amla had also refused to wear a sponsor’s logo on his team jersey which belonged to an alcohol brand (Castle beer). He had also agreed to pay a fine of $ 500 for not conforming to the sponsor’s terms and agreements.

Some people have criticized the cricketer for imposing his morals onto the female host and asking the organizers to only do the interview if she wore something appropriate. Other more extremist factions have actually supported him for his making the host change her outfit, as acceptable to his religious beliefs.
