Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has paid tribute to Orlando Pirates, labelling them “the best team in the country”.
Pirates, who reached the final of last year’s Champions League, are the only South African club to win the competition, doing so in 1995.
And Mosimane is eager to emulate the Soweto outfit’s achievements on the continent.
“We must take a leaf from Pirates,” Mosimane says of the Nedbank Cup holders.
“How do you measure that? It is on the field of play. They have got the star, that’s big, that’s Africa. They have won so many titles locally and we need to copy from them.”
Mosimane feels Downs, the Premiership champions, need to win the Champions League before they can be compared to the Buccaneers.
“We have won many PSL titles, more than anybody else. We also hope to put the star so that we can properly compare ourselves to Pirates,” says ‘Jingles’.
