On Thursday the Absa Premeirship announced the player and coach of the month at their Premier Soccer League offices in Parktown.
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeer Daniel Akpeyi was named Player of the Month while Amakhosi’s head coach Ernst Middendorp was named Coach of the Month.
Amakhosi are currently sitting comfortably on top of the Absa Premiership with 31 points after 12 games. Theres a 10 point gap between Chiefs and Sundowns who are in second spot on the log.
Middendorp had this to say, “I’m grateful for this award. It is a reflection of the work we have been doing. It is not about me but the technical team, the players and Kaizer Chiefs”
Daniel Akpeyi said he was surpirsed but was extremely grateful “It shows the importance of putting effort forward in whatever you do. I give credit to the technical team who have been patient with me.”
Middendorp (on December schedule) “There is no break. We will keep on working. If we are in a good mood we will train on December 24 and 25. Maybe we rest. Or maybe we train. There is no break.”
Akpeyi: “I’m settling in, I’m taking each game as it comes. Khune is a good keeper, I’m just grateful for the opportunity from the coach. It’s a healthy competition in that department (keeper). I’m just happy to be improving all the time.”
