Minister of Sports & Recreation, Ms Tokozile Xasa has congratulated Kevin Anderson as he marched to the finals of Wimbledon tournament on Friday.
It was Anderson’s first semi-final at the All England Club, won 7-6 (8/6), 6-7 (5/7), 6-7 (9/11), 6-4, 26-24 at Centre Court. The match lasted 6 hours and 35 minutes. In 91 years, Anderson will be the second South African to reach Wimbledon final.
“Kevin has engraved himself in the history books of our country. He will go down as one of the best athletes of our nation, he will be celebrated by generations to come.” Minister Xasa said.
Anderson stunned the tennis world on Wednesday when he beat the defending champion Roger Federer in the Wimbledon quarter-finals.
“Once again I urge all South Africans to rally behind this true patriot. This victory will auger well for tennis as a sport and will inspire future generations of tennis players.” Xasa added.
