The weather affected opening test match between India and Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens ended in a draw. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first, they managed to bowl India out for 172 runs in their first innings with Lakmal the pick of the bowlers getting 4/26.
Sri Lanka responded well in their first innings, reaching a total of 294 and a lead of 122 runs, Kumar and Shami were the pick of the bowlers in the Indian attack, each getting 4 wickets. However it was Virat Kohli’s second innings performance that got India on the front foot in the Test Match. Kohli scored an unbeaten 104 off 119 balls as he steered India to a 352/8 declared and 230 run lead.
Sri Lanka needed 231 runs to win the test match in 47 overs in their second innings but they could only manage 75 runs as Kumar ripped through the Sri Lankan top order. The match ended in a draw due to bad light on the final day and Sri Lanka survived a very tense Day 5.
