Althea Gibson was the first African-American to win the US Open back in 1957, today, 60 years later Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys are following in her footsteps. They will meet in the US Open Final for the first time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sloane Stephens  met with veteran Venus Williams in her semi-final match, she won that match 6-1 0-6 7-5. Madison Keys cruised past her opponent Coco Vandeweghe beating her in straight sets, 6-1 6-2. For the first time since 2001 (Capriati Aussie Open), an American will win her first Grand Slam. The last time the US Open had an all-American final, was in 2002, when Serena Williams beat Venus Williams.
