On Thursday, Roger Federer survived another five-set thriller beating Mikahail Youzhny 6-7 4-6 6-4 6-2, in a match that lasted 3 hours and 8 minutes. This is the first time Federer has started a Grand Slam with two five-set matches. What was also concerning, was how his lower-back injury would hold up, but yesterday he said he was “much better”

Womens Singles, Coco Vandeweghe beat Ons Jabeur 7-6 6-2, Shuai Zhang beat Risa Ozaki 6-0 6-3, Naomi Osaka beat Denisa Alletova 6-3 4-6 7-5. Jelena Ostapenko beat Sorona Cirstea 6-4 6-4. Madison Keys beat Tatjana Maria 6-3 6-4, Elina Svitolina beat Kirsten Flipkens 6-4 6-4.
