South African women’s hockey team beat Ireland on Thursday 3 – 0 to qualify for the 2018 Hockey World Cup in London, England. 

SA went into half time with 1 – 0 lead, goal scored by Lisa-Marie Deetlefs from a penalty corner. The second goal came from Bernadette Coston in the opening minutes of the last Chukka. 

When Ireland took off their goal keeper with nine minutes left on the clock, Lillian du Plessis scored South Africa’s 3rd goal. 

South Africa are now 13th in the World rankings, they will now play Japan for 5th spot in the tournament. The SA Men’s side play Japan at 10am On Friday.
