Rahul Tripathi’s belligerent knock of 93 off just 52 deliveries studded with nine fours and seven sixes helped Rising Pune Supergiant beat Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets in Match 41 of the Indian Premier League season 10 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Wednesday. RSP chased down the target of 155 in the final over as they moved to third in the points tally surpassing Sunrises Hyderabad. For KKR, Manish Pandey top-scored with 36, while Jaydev Unadkat was the pick of the bowlers for RPS with figures of 4-1-28-2. For KKR, Chris Woakes bowled brilliantly and ended with 4-0-18-3
Without Robin Uthappa, rested owing to a hamstring niggle, the Kolkata Knight Riders top order had a rare failure. Jaydev Unadkat’s superb first over that saw Sunil Narine playing and missing five consecutive deliveries culminated in a fantastic return catch by Unadkat off Narine. Ben Stokes followed it up well with a tidy second over before Sheldon Jackson was out hit wicket in the first over bowled by Washington Sundar. Gautam Gambhir tried to up the ante with consecutive fours off Stokes and six and a four off Sundar but was holed in the deep off Sundar for 24. KKR found themselves at a rare predicament of 41 for three in the first six overs.
Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan tried to rebuild the KKR innings in a slow and steady manner, but Pandey lost Pathan to Imran Tahir, trapped in front for 4. Pandey then proceeded to hit Shardul Thakur for three consecutive boundaries. Pandey got good company in big-hitter Colin de Grandhomme who got the run-rate up with back-to-back sixes off Tahir. The duo combined for a 48-run stand in just 5.1 overs helping KKR to 103 for four in 14 overs. But just when it looked KKR are set for the assault, Dan Christian scalped Pandey for 37 with a slower delivery – caught at midwicket. De Grandhomme departed one over later to Unadkat courtesy another slower one that the New Zealander top-edged to third man for 36.
