Manchester United’s hopes of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo appear to be off after Zinedine Zidane took charge of Real Madrid.

United had reportedly wanted to bring their former wing wizard back to Old Trafford in a mega-money deal.

But Zidane does not want to sell the team’s prized possession and has told that any approaches would be rebuffed immediately.

Zidane said: “It’s not just that (Ronaldo) isn’t for sale, instead he’s the heart and soul of this team. I laugh because as long as I’m here, he isn’t going anywhere”.

…but what about Bale?

Gareth Bale appears also to be unlikely to move to Manchester United after further Zidane comments.

The Welshman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford but Zidane insists that, like Ronaldo, Bale will not be going anywhere.

He said: “Departures? I don’t want anyone to leave and I hope nobody does. I’m not planning for any arrivals either. I have a good-sized squad and I’ll make do with the team I have.”

Fun factor: Giggs is being given further responsibility at United, it seems
Ryan Giggs has been forced to tell Louis van Gaal to make Manchester United’s training session’s FUN, according to The Sun.

In a fresh bid to turn around United’s fortunes, Giggs has now reportedly been given more authority on a match day and at training.

It has been alleged that United are now adopting some of the regimes used by Sir Alex Ferguson in the build-up to matches which has helped improve the atmosphere at Carrington.

Players were believed to be unhappy with the repetitive approach of Van Gaal’s sessions.

Target: Blanc is allegedly on United’s shortlist as they decide a potential new boss
Manchester United have contacted Paris Saint-Germain over the availability of Laurent Blanc , according to reports in France, writes Mirror Football’s Aaron Flanagan.

Louis van Gaal’s job still appears to be hanging by a thread despite claiming victory last weekend, ending a run of seven games without a win.

But now it appears that Blanc, a former United defender, could be in line to take over control at Old Trafford.

According to Le 10 Sport , Blanc is on a shortlist of candidates to take over as manager of United either at the end of the season or earlier, should the Red Devils feel the need to call time on Van Gaal’s reign.

And it is believed that the task of managing United is ‘appealing’ to the Frenchman.

Softies: Van Gaal has challenged his United players to toughen up
Louis van Gaal has accused his Manchester United players of being too soft on each other.

United host League One side Sheffield United in Saturday tea-time’s televised FA Cup tie, having finally ended a miserable run of eight games without a win .

Van Gaal said the atmosphere in the home dressing-room was “too good” and suggested his players needed to be tougher with each other.

The Dutchman wants his players to be less cosy with each other and adopt a more critical approach with their team-mates during training sessions and on match-days.

“I think the atmosphere in our dressing room is very good,” said Van Gaal.
