JOHANNESBURG – A goal in the 28th minute of extra-time from Ayanda Gcaba vaulted Orlando Pirates to a 2-1 victory over University of Pretoria in their Telkom knockout round of 16 match at Orlando Stadium, in Orlando, on Friday evening.
With just over two minutes remaining before a penalty shootout with the scores locked at 1-1, Gcaba snapped up a loose ball on the edge of the Tuks area and fired the Buccaneers through to the quarterfinal of the Cup competition. Pirates will play Maritzburg United on October 24 in the quarterfinal.
Kermit Erasmus missed a penalty in the 15th minute of first half extra time as Tuks keeper Washington Arubi pulled off a top save to keep his side in the contest.
But ultimately it would be the hosts who would find the crucial second goal to book their spot in the next round of the cup competition.
